I really love wearing delicate jewelry but those thin necklace chains can be a pain in the ass when they get tangled. Here are some how-tos to fix common problems:
Hair is tangled around the chain
1. Take off the necklace.
2. Get a paper towel and some corn starch.
3. On the paper towel, lay out the necklace and spoon on the corn starch.
4. Roll the necklace around in the corn starch. You should be able to pull the hair out. Use a pair of tweezers to help if the hair is too short for you to grip.
It might take some more corn starch and rolling but the hair will come out. I was really surprised this work; I think it’s because the cornstarch fills up the holes in the links and helps the hair unravel from the links. I read other remedies involving burning the hair but that could potentially damage your necklace (especially if its non-precious metals). This is a great safe solution for an aggravating problem.
Chain is tangled
1. Lay your necklace out on a hard surface.
2. Get some oil and two pins.
3. Place a couple of drops of oil on your necklace where the knot is and use the two pins to help pull the knot apart. Be really gentle as you don’t want to break your chain. I like using cleansing oil (the kind for your face) as I figure its gentle and it washes out easily without oily residue.
After de-tangling your chain, rinse it in cold water. I really recommend giving it a cleanse in jewelry cleaner solution.
